Who we are
Ember - Wellness Journal is a mobile application published on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. This website supports that application and provides information about how Ember works, how your information is handled, and how to contact us. If you have questions about this policy or about privacy in Ember, you can reach us at support@emberwellnessjournal.com.
What information we collect
Ember is designed so that the most personal information you record stays on your device unless you actively choose otherwise. The app may store wellness information that you enter, including daily check-ins, symptoms, notes, mood and energy patterns, sleep observations, cycle context, and other self-reported entries. That information is stored locally on your device by default and is not transmitted to Ember unless you choose to enable cloud backup.
If you enable optional cloud backup, Ember collects the email address you use for passwordless authentication so that your backup can be associated with your account and restored later. Ember does not collect payment card details directly. Device-level information related to app installation, billing, and subscription status may be collected by Apple or Google through their app store platforms as part of normal purchase and subscription handling. Ember does not use advertising identifiers, analytics SDKs, or third-party tracking tools inside the product as part of its core architecture.
How we use your information
We use information only to operate the app and provide the features you have chosen to use. Local wellness data is used within the app to generate your reports, reflections, exports, and pattern views. If you enable cloud backup, we use your email address and encrypted account session to provide backup and restore. If you choose reminder notifications, we use your local settings to schedule those reminders on your device. Subscription status is used to determine access to premium features and is managed through Apple App Store or Google Play systems.
Health and wellness data entered into Ember is never used for advertising, never sold to third parties, and never shared with anyone for marketing purposes. Ember is built to help you understand your own history, not to monetize it.
Cloud backup and Supabase
Cloud backup is optional. If you turn it on, Ember uses email-based passwordless authentication so you can associate your backup with your account without creating a traditional password. Backup data is stored on Supabase infrastructure, which Ember uses as a secure cloud layer for optional storage and restore. The cloud database is configured with row-level security so that each authenticated user can access only her own data. This means backup records are protected by database-level access rules in addition to normal authentication controls.
If you later decide you no longer want your data stored in the cloud, you can delete your cloud backup data through the account deletion option available in the app. That action removes your cloud-backed data from the Ember backup system. Local data on your phone remains under your control unless you remove the app or delete it from within the app experience.
Subscriptions and RevenueCat
Subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Ember does not receive or store your full payment details. RevenueCat is used as the subscription management layer to help validate purchases, restore entitlements, and keep premium access in sync across supported platforms. RevenueCat receives only the information needed to manage subscription state and does not change Ember's privacy promise around your self-reported wellness history.
Children's privacy
Ember is not designed for or directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that information has been provided by a child in a way that should not have occurred, we will take reasonable steps to delete that information.
Your rights and choices
You control whether to use Ember with or without an account. You may delete all local data by uninstalling the app from your device, or by using any in-app deletion options made available in settings. If you have enabled cloud backup, you may delete cloud data through the account deletion feature inside the app. You can disable notifications at any time through the app's settings or your device settings. You may also contact support@emberwellnessjournal.com with privacy-related questions or requests, and we will respond as promptly as reasonably possible.
Data retention
Local data stored by Ember remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Cloud backup data is retained until you delete your account or otherwise remove the backup through the tools provided in the app. Subscription records and transaction history are retained by Apple and Google according to their platform requirements and retention policies. Ember retains only the minimum service-layer information necessary to support backup, restore, subscription access, and support workflows.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the product, legal requirements, or our privacy practices. If we make a material change, we will communicate it through an update notice in the app or through another appropriate in-product notice. Your continued use of Ember after an updated policy becomes effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
